Ms. O’Leary graduated from Idaho State University in 1978, with a B.A. in Journalism, and received her J.D. from the University of Idaho, College of Law in 1994. Following graduation from law school, she served as Law Clerk to Idaho Supreme Court Justice Gerald F. Schroeder. Prior to receiving her law degree she served as a law clerk to the Idaho Attorney General, Consumer Protection Unit, and as a Legislative Intern to Congressman Richard Stallings. Upon completion of her Idaho Supreme Court clerkship in 1996, Ms. O’Leary entered private practice.
Ms. O’Leary has been active in the Idaho State Bar since joining the profession. She served as chair of the Young Lawyers Section from 1997-1998, and served on the editorial advisory board for the Idaho State Bar journal, The Advocate, from 1995 to 2001. She has been an active member of the Business & Corporate Law Section since 1997, and served as chair of the Governing Council from 2004-2005, in addition to serving as treasurer for the Section for 2009 and 2010. In 2010, Ms. O’Leary was elected by her colleagues in the Fourth Judicial District to serve a three-year term as a commissioner on the Idaho State Bar Board of Commissioners. She began her service as president of the Idaho State Bar in July of 2012, and concluded her service on the Commission in July of 2013.
In addition to her service to the Bar, Ms. O’Leary has been active in the larger community. She served on the board of directors for the North End Neighborhood Association from 2003-2009, during which time she co-founded a monthly forum which brings together Boise’s core neighborhood associations to share ideas and concerns. She has served on the City of Boise’s Design Review Committee for substandard lots, as well as the Code Enforcement Advisory Committee. Ms. O’Leary served on the Advisory Council for the Boise Metro Chamber’s Small Business Success Center from 2004-2009, and currently serves on the statewide Advisory Council for the Idaho Small Business Development Center. In addition, she is a regular presenter on legal issues affecting small businesses for the monthly workshops sponsored by the Boise chapter of SCORE (Senior Corps of Retired Executives). She also is a member of the Salons & Tours Committee of the City Club of Boise.
In 2003, Ms. O’Leary was honored as Business Woman of the Year by the Boise and Southeast Idaho Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners, and was honored in 2009 as on the Idaho Business Reviews Women of the Year.
Ms. O’Leary founded BizCounselor@Law in 2013, following 13 years as a Managing Member of Richardson & O’Leary, PLLC, in Boise, Idaho.
In her spare time, Ms. O’Leary enjoys fly fishing, camping, whitewater rafting, hiking, photography and writing.
